Day 21: Unused Scenes

Want to join in? 30 Days of Writing About Writing

Tell us about one scene between your characters that you’ve never written or told anyone about before! Serious or not.

Amara was in “metal form” (which involves using lightning/electricity) after defeating an earth-based low demon. Lucian ducked away as if scared of her. She asked him what he was doing and he responded: “Last time you were in this form I ended up getting electrocuted.” She promptly hit him with the bo staff she carried and told him “It’s been over one thousand years since then, don’t you think I’ve improved at least a little?”

That was just one of those little conversations that I tried to use to show Amara and Lucian’s relationship. They fight constantly, but it’s “with love.” I’ve no place to use that conversation or the battle versus the earth demon in my current version of God-Chosen. It’s in the pile of unused scenes I might use in the future, whether in rewrites of God-Chosen, or in a prequel/sequel to it.

I also had several scenes with Amara and Felix which featured several sexual jokes, playing off Felix’s description as “like a cat.” These would involve kitty treat, collars, leashes, and other such items. Amara would make a comment likening Felix to a cat, and he would play off it in a sexual manner. Joking, of course, as Felix is a naught but a hatchling, but those conversations showed both Felix’s humor and Amara’s wit. Again, perhaps I’ll use those in the future, but for now they’re yet unwritten.

Okay that was more than one scene. Oh well.

Tomorrow’s question: How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story—from planning to writing to posting (if you post your work)?
